Someone had mentioned the Green River, through the Gates of Lodore, anyone have any thoughts on this trip, or resources to point me towards, looks pretty nice. Or actually just notice this is a permit, but what about from Echo Park down?

IMHO "out west" is California, Oregon, and Washington

Lots of rivers for base camps and day runs

Didn't realize this simple thread would start a debate as to what "Out West" meant or can be defined as...I was just looking for any suggestions for a river trip West of the Mississippi......funny

That's okay, my husband gets a big chuckle because I consider anything east of the Washington, Oregon, California borders as "Back East"!

Kabuki_blaze,

The Ladore-Split Mountain section of the Green is a permit only. However, you might check with the powers that be and see if they have any permits returned.

If you are interested in driving a bit further, the Lower Salmon (ID) is typically a 4 day run, 71 miles from Hammer Creek or 60 miles from Pine Bar on the Salmon with the take-out at Heller Bar on the Snake River. Permits are sign up at the put in. The Salmon is always runnable, except when it exceeds 25,000 - 30,000 cfs due to Slide rapid. The river is running 55,000cfs, but should be about 10,000 cfs or less by August.
