Anybody notice the lack of knuckle protection...

Post by hankrankin »

Neoprene gloves dont cut it for creeking and F**k paying 90 for the NRS creek gloves. I'm thinking motoX gloves, anyone got an opinion on this. Oh and probably the coolest canoe specific piece of clothing/gear is snap dragons canoe pogie, yeah i want those too. What if they made a canoe pogie with padding for knuckle boofs

Yup.. THOR impact gloves.

(The Thor Quadrant elbow gards are also some of the best and at $25 a pair can't be beat)

Keep surfing the web on the NRSs - I picked up a pair 2nd hand with very low use for $15 (including S&H).

The motoX gloves would work too but might not have the "feel" for the stick or be warm enough for cold water creeking (if you get cold hands).

Acosi: Are you actually using these or just saw them and they looked cool?

I'm also on the look for such but most cycling/motor bike stuff sometimes adsorb too much water and the feel isn't so good, and after a couple of wet/dry cycle the fabric's heading crap...

Let us know; design and pricewise looks good!
Watch out; that river has rocks on the bottom. :o

Just make a set of pogies & add a couple layers of carbon. Or stay upright

@Acosi151 RE: Thor Quadrant elbow guards

hey from what I read these have an elastic sleeve?....do they have a cross over velcro closure on the forearm too?

Can you tell me if the plastic guard is rigid hard or is it softer bendable plastic that might even be stitched through to the padding holding it all together.

I use the gloves, yes they get sort of soggy but there have drain holes in the finger tips and the mesh back lets go of almost all water instantly. It's really important to get a pair that fit "like a glove" luckily they use a numbered size system so you find a pair that fit perfect and just keep ordereing the same number.

The leather palm gets stiff when it's dry but loosens right back up after a bit of use. I use hockey tape for grip on my paddle when I'm using these gloves and they hook up very nicely.

The quadrant elbow pads have an elastic sleeve and cross-over velcro straps. The plastic is hard and not going to work in a sewing machine. But they also seem to stay in place a lot better than the big NRS guards I've seen.

Those are the ones I currently have, they have elastic velcro cross straps across the inside of the elbow. Would like to try the Answer Apex, they get great reviews. If your bargain hunting Cumnock has the EVS Option pads for $16.25

do the thor have 2 velcro attachements 1 bicept wrap and a another crisscrossing the forearm?..... It looks like it might just have one but they don't show the padding side in any pictures.

If they have 2 different velcro attachments and a sleeve I think *AND* a hard shell these are better than more than 80% of the pads and I'll be ordering them.

@ eddyhops: I looked at those guards (answer apex) and I wouldn't suggest them as a good choice. those are the soft plastic ones with the padding sewn through the softer plastic outer shells. I've taken baseball bat shots to the elbow with hardshells and it hurt but never thought about it again.

So do those Thors have 2 different upper and lower velcro attachments?

Two straps, four contact points, cross inside the elbow
