Used L'edges or Options?
So, when are some of you L'edge or Option owners gonna start selling? I know there's quite a few folks waiting for used ones, so trade up and spread the love. Support the manufacturers! Grow the sport!
Re: Used L'edges or Options?
Ha Ha Ha!!! At this point most of the L'edge and Option owners would respond that they are not aware of any upgrades at this time. Personally, I have just finally gotten my Option outfitted the way I like it.
Re: Used L'edges or Options?
As someone who just paid out the arse for a new l'edge, I m really feeling badly for all the folks who can't find used ones.

Umm, Trade up to what?
I think it will be a while before you see L'Edges commonly available. There was a short spurt of them being available used when they were so new people were buying them sight-unseen. Some people opted to trade for the lighter open model, a few decided it wasn't their boat of preference. Now, I think people who have L'Edges know that it is exactly the boat they want, and people without have had more chance to demo the L'Edge and/or look at the Option too, so people are getting exactly what they want. Blackfly's business model puts a pretty hard limit on his maximum number of boats that can be produced... That, and the lower price-point suggest that there will be few used Options even longer than there are few used L'Edges. I think both companies are being rewarded for their innovation, and I know it's frustrating to be on the waiting end... But I wouldn't hold out for a used one if there is a way to make a new one work.
Good Luck,
Shep

Trade up to a new one! Don't wait until you crack it. How many stress/flex cycles do you think those plastic hulls will take?Umm, Trade up to what?

That business model is "I still want to be able to go paddling when it rains"Shep wrote: Blackfly's business model puts a pretty hard limit on his maximum number of boats that can be produced...

My advice is to go buy a new L'Edge or Blackfly if you can. You won't regret it. The new boats are better than the older designs. They're also more fun to paddle.
We need to support the manufacturers that are producing new whitewater canoes if we want more designs in the future.

I've been looking for an older Ocoee that's in excellent condition, close to home and for a reasonable price for about five years now... thusfar... no dice!

You want there to be more L'Edges and Options, go buy them. You want there to be a "better" L'Edge/Option in 2 years, go buy one now.
Esquif and Jeremy went out on a limb to inject life into the sport. As a broke college student, I understand wanting to save two hundred bucks, but canoeists already have a reputation of being cheap, dumping legos into a ten year old POS to get two more runs. Maybe it's time to pay it forward a little, if you can
