Any helmets for big heads?

Post by RobG4 »

I've tried on numerous helmets at canoe shops over the last couple of years, and never found one to fit my 7 7/8 (25") hat size head. Even with the padded shims removed, the XL size Strutters, Shaggys, Tdubs, Pro-Tecs etc etc, will not fit.

Can anyone point me towards paddling helmets made for large heads?

I have a 7 3/4 and on some days it feels bigger. The standard WRSI fits me with the XL paddling in

I don't know if it is still around, but I use a Greatful Heads Hard Hit.

Looks like they go up to a 26" size. Or I think Bern makes a big plastic helmet.

Looks like all the Sweet helmets top out at 24" with XL size.

Grateful Heads apparently went out of business last year.

I did find Head Trip Helmets which make my size though.

Thanks Surf!

Looks like we were posting about Head Trip at the same time.

The Bern helmets might work nicely, although I can't find any online retailers carrying the XXXL version it seems.

I have a big head (physically not figuratively) and the only helmet that fits me is the Predator Lee 8. Even with this helmet I can only use one small fit pad on the front. I don't see this helmet listed on their website anymore but someone may have it available. I only bought mine last year.

I have a long oval head and the hard hit and XL sweet full face are even too small front to back for me.
What I did that works well is as follows:

I got a shred ready Tdub [still too small] then cut a 1" thick oval app 3" x 5" and stuck it into the crown of the helmet. It lifted it up 1" which gave me enough clearance to fit well [the T dubb gets wider as you go downward).

Seda had years ago very large helmets that would for herman munster if you can find one you would trust.

I'm still looking for a full coverage helmet. I've thought about asking if I could pay a helmet company extra to add a pad to the front of their mold and make a 1 off longer helmet.
