Always wear them... if not and I flip and roll (or siwm) I'll have a serious sinus headache over the next couple days. Hang them from my helmet strap and feel naked without them.

Ah, yes. Murphy is your trip leader.

I find that nose plugs are fiddly and unnecessary. The trick is to dribble a little air out of the nose when you hit the water.

Fall over, breathe out.

Roll up, breathe in

Fall over, breathe in. . . (NO, wait. . . !)

Always when in a rapid... habit from buttboating and squirtboating... and when I dont have them in I tend to flip and snort water.

Almost always. If I snort up a bunch of water, I wind up not being able to breathe through my nose for a week.

I wear them when playing or when the water is really cold. Or sometimes on bigger/scarier rapids.... They do have a certain calming property, maybe like putting a burlap sack over the head of a crocodile to chill it out?? :o

have to agree with the calming effect of having them on, but it Might just be because its part of my ritual getting ready for a more challenging rapid (top off float bags, tighten straps, put on noseplugs, then pull out into the current hoping for the best) :D so Im just not on my toes 100% if im thinking I wont need them....

I learned in a pool and got a nice nosefull of overchlorinated YMCA water and borrowed noseplugs the rest of the session got a roll but never taught/beat into myself to focus on breathing out while under there...... always something to work on

Nope. Don't use them and don't KNeed them. I like to dribble air out my nostrils. 8)

I lost my in a pool session locker room. Never got to use them on the river. Needless to say, I wouldn't have worn them again if they showed up...so I boat without them. But I'm with PAC on the sinus problems. Even today my head feels heavy with Susquehanna water because we were out playing yesterday. My ears get blocked up, nose feels stuffy and tying my shoes becomes a dreaded task.

I choose my paddling equipment based one what I want, need or perceive to need.. not purely to either look cool or impress someone. My open boat alone adds to the coolness factor, so I don't have to over try. I couldn't care less if someone 'thinks' there is something wrong with noseplugs or not. But, I'm a grown man and am not looking to be anyones lap dog, looking up saying "did I do good with that post???... huh huh??? Pet me!"
