Armorall myths.

Post by ezwater »

sbroam, Armorall is water based and probably no more harmful than 303. I've used it occasionally, and it does not leave an oily film on the water surface because it dries dry. 303 leaves a greasy, slippery film unless it is wiped down like the directions specify.

I'm not a proponent of Armorall, but they seem to be victims of suburban myths.

Myself, I'm switching to yacht waxes with UV inhibitors. There's no reason to think they provide less UV protection than 303, they stay on longer, and they slip better on rocks and gravel. Kaz specifies boat wax for UV protection on his hulls, which have no gelcoat.

Adam- your boat storage looks like Imelda Marcos's shoe closet! That's an impressive collection, and I know is only a part of the total. You should print a catalogue!

I promised a better picture of my boat storage. I found a picture I took after repairs/improvements, but prior to adding the third level.

Adam, I like your storage; I might borrow a few ideas from it.

I used to store all my boats in the upper floor of a barn. It was perfect… until someone broke in and used one (the Slasher) to sled things out and down to their car (winter time, 1+ miles from nearest plowed road). Oddly they didn't take the slasher (so at least they had SOME sense;) )

Lacking a garage I built a shed in our back yard a few years back. The width is almost a hair to long to accommodate shorter boats and the roof (corrugated tin) needs more pitch to shed the leaves better.
