I have now run white water in a canoe

Post by junkinduck »

After spending four days on the New with Eli I am among the ranks of the OC1 crowd. I ran the upper new a couple of times, surfed a few waves and swam a lot. I may have the record at Fayette Station. I swam it four consecutive times without a success. I will have to go back another day for today the river won. Also thanks to all that encouraged me to try canoeing. Thanks for all of the gear advice. and Most thanks for stearing me to Eli. He made the four days fly and I had a blast. It wasn't his fault I couldn't make Fayette he did everything but drag me through.

It wasn't untill my fourth run that I actually ran "Undercut" upright. I just couldn't get away from the corner of that rock. :)

I don't know about records. I'm assuming your swims were four swims of the same rapid in four different trips. I may have the record - I swam three times in Land of 1000 Holes (Cheoah) on the same run. :D

Congratulations on joining the ranks of OC1! And Eli is awesome.

No Kimmie not different trips. It went like this, put in above the rapid, go part way down, flip, swim for life, go to take out below rapid, shuddle back to top of rapid, then repeat, repeat, repeat. By try four I was worn out and beat up.

That's what they call learning ;-).

As long as it's safe and it's fun, keep on going... . Some day you'll do that run backwards having a beer while you go down... .

Yep Don, Jakke is right. The next time I ran Land of 1000 Holes I had no problems and couldn't remember why I thought it was so hard the first time.

 Uh Oh! Probably just set myself up for massive swim next trip.
