Styrolight Lady Lizard

Anyone have any info on styrolight? I'm curious about this boat in styrolight, but know nothing about it. What are the positives and negatives of the stuff? Will the boat handle similarly in styrolight as it would in the other lay-ups? Any info greatly appreciated.

Try searching on Martikan C1 in Plastic, there was a discussion about this when Vajda announced their Styrolight boats. Think it was a couple years ago. Sorry I was not able to put the link from that thread into this one.

I spent a while talking to hydrasports (the UK importer) about this:

They reckon that it's easily as stiff as a composite boat, and weighs in at slightly more than a normal Glass & Diolen layup... They compared the toughness to Royalex, but pointed out that the material is designed to be fixed with normal composite materials if it breaks...

I'll probably be buying a Styrolite Martikan when I have the cash...

The Valley Mill Slalom Team in the DC area purchased a Styrolight kayak more than a year ago and has been using it ever since. Bruce Uthus, the team coach, indicated that they have been pleased with both its performance and its durability. It is heavier than composite, but not as heavy as PE. It is also cheaper than composite.

If you want more detailed feedback, you might consider trying to reach Bruce Uthus down at Valley Mill.
