That was too cool! What a beautifully crafted boat, notice the expert J stroke the boat builder has. I am impressed.

And they paddled them in waters full of alligators and cottonmouths!

When I lived in south Louisiana, a lot of people called my little fishing kayak a "pirogue." I used to get lots of wisecracks and free bait shrimp from the shrimp-boat crews.

Louisiana Story is an interesting film. At one point, it shows, with a note of industrial pride, this giant thresher-looking machine cutting huge channels through the marshes for the oil companies. Just how they thought if wetlands back then, I guess. Portent of doom for south Louisiana in the 21st century, though.
