repair
Hey Scott, yup raft vinyl, from the trash bin at a rafting company. Gumpy, won't be heading to Moosefest this year. It's a goodtime, but memory is still fresh from the last...paddling against the wind into a cold driving rain that turned to snow. Looking forward to the New Boston MA release that wee...

cold weather cracking
I've paddled my plastic gunwhaled Outrage vintage '03 for four Northeast winters, it's not all that fragile but chances for cracks from hits due to the cold temps are higher. One NewYears paddle had it loaded on the car outdoors, temps were down in the teens overnight and didn't get above freezing t...

Hudson Gorge
From my limited experience of both rivers I'd say the Hudson Gorge NY under 5.5 is very different from the Kennebec Gorge ME at 8000. The Kennebec at 8000 has larger waves and is not what I would call sneakable. A long swim on the Indian, the entrance river to the Hudson, could be as long as one on ...

solar chargers for pumps
I've got dual Atwood 1250's running off a SLA 12v. Pump to outlet distance is 2'. Pumps are placed in front of saddle, outlets are on each side of the boat, full boat with bags empties to almost dry in 2 minutes. A fully charged year old battery (charged for about 6 hrs.) has less than hour of pumpi...

Tommy, my dual 1250 pumps, off a 12 v, no fuse have been working a year without fail ever since you set me straight on the circular wiring thing I had going on. Now ya tell me I need a fuse? Being electrically challenged, please tell what kind of fuse do I need and where and on what wire does it go?...

Like a true 'woodchuck' (a type of Adirondacker) Louie had one request, Genny Cream Ale. So we loaded up the truck and went to Tennessee. Tales were told, but Psycho would not tell which one rapid of the Green he hasn't swum. Psycho tales have since seeped into the deep woods of Vermont, there may e...

Chattooga, Please Write
letters & e-mails are needed! It has been illegal to paddle the Chattooga Headwaters since 1976, not long after Deliverance was made on that river. A group of paddlers, canoe clubs, and American Whitewater have been battling the U.S. Forest Service since the late 1990s to open those waters to boatin...

Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated. To get an invite on a classic beauty, as well as the offer of a boat to borrow, is pretty special and rare best I can tell...but...much to think about. Taniwha, your pictures are exquisite. When the picture of His Kanubic Travesty appeared it actually ...

Hey Bill, my 2 cents based solely on experience with a royalex hull...Before considering doing any kind of carving-out, I would first try a hair dyer, keep moving it over and around the bracket, might take a few minutes to get an edge to loosen and then patiently keep at it, avoid the sharp tools, j...

LEW's post got me thinking about our different experiences with Krylon Fusion plastic paint durability. It could be surface prep, but I'm inclined to discount that in my case as I did follow can instructions and anywhere it was painted and not rescratched is still holding on and it was done in under...
