Prelude: tippy, with little primary stability, and not all that much secondary stability, Hard as nails though.
Maxim: seems fun, nice comfy boat, easy enough to roll. (N.B. I've only had it out on flat water for half an hour.)

Maxim was my first boat. BIG MISTAKE. Squirelly and doesnt track well... i've never seen one other than the prototype that I had (in Canada) ... might be ok if you're 120 lbs, but I'd go w/ another boat like the prelude or zoom if you're that small.

"An exhilarating ride for the experienced paddler!"
"Maxim is order-only so please be patient while we custom make this masterpeice!"
Sounds like a fancy way of saying "it's a squirrely boat and we're not putting any hopes on this one being a big seller"
Max Johnston used to post here YEARS ago - actually the Climax paddle I have is one of his, it's still holding up after 4 years of light use.. good paddle.
MAXIM

there's one in DC . . .
Mike Martin and Daryl Hall were ttrying to sell theirs a while back - it's in basically new shape. I think they were asking $600 or $650.
Just sayin'.
