Prelude: tippy, with little primary stability, and not all that much secondary stability, Hard as nails though.

Maxim: seems fun, nice comfy boat, easy enough to roll. (N.B. I've only had it out on flat water for half an hour.)

Maxim was my first boat. BIG MISTAKE. Squirelly and doesnt track well... i've never seen one other than the prototype that I had (in Canada) ... might be ok if you're 120 lbs, but I'd go w/ another boat like the prelude or zoom if you're that small.

Gaetan - check out http://www.mohawkcanoes.com/whitewater.htm

"An exhilarating ride for the experienced paddler!"
"Maxim is order-only so please be patient while we custom make this masterpeice!"

Sounds like a fancy way of saying "it's a squirrely boat and we're not putting any hopes on this one being a big seller"

Max Johnston used to post here YEARS ago - actually the Climax paddle I have is one of his, it's still holding up after 4 years of light use.. good paddle.

MAXIM

Length Overall 8'10", Beam @ Gunwale 27", Beam @ 4" Waterline 25 1/8"
Beam Max 27 5/8", Weight (bare boat) 32 lbs. Weight (fully outfitted) 41 lbs. Rocker (symmetrical) 4 1/2", Depth at Center 15 1/2", Depth at Ends (symmetrical) 18"

Designed by Canadian Maxwell Johnston and Mohawk Canoes. The Mohawk Maxim's short length and planing hull make it a quick and playful boat that surfs very small waves. What the Mohawk Maxim lacks in initial stability, is made up for in final stability. A truly exhilarating ride for the experienced paddler.

The Mohawk Maxim - Surf's Up!!

The Maxim is only available by special order, so please be patient as we construct this unusual and captivating boat. Please call for prices.

Mike Martin and Daryl Hall were ttrying to sell theirs a while back - it's in basically new shape. I think they were asking $600 or $650.

Just sayin'.

p.s. I'm talking about the Maxim.
