Trip Report / Instruction with Eli
Just wanted to post a trip report from the weekend.
4 of us took a class with Eli Helbert on Saturday on the Nolichucky. There were 4 places where we had to portage over ice, and several places where we slid over smaller iced over sections. The level was around 1100, and with it just under 4k now, I can't help but wonder what all that water is doing to all that ice. I found out that rock spins are much better on royalex boats when the rock is covered in ice! Another interesting move Eli showed us is the "ice shelf spin", spinning over and over along a shelf of ice. See link below for some pics i took. Unfortunately there aren't too many.

Whatever your skill level is, if you're learning how to canoe, want to refine your skills, I recomend looking into instruction with Eli. I've hit a plateau in my boating, and he was able to show me several different things to focus on, that should help.

Icey Noli
I was in the group that put on just in front of you guys. Wild day out there for sure! Pretty spooky feeling with all that overhanging ice on the banks and rocks. Twin Eddies was scary, a swim could've put you straight under that ice sheet! Made the Noli at 1000 straight up class IV if you ask me! Cool Pics!
Its not about the approach. Its about control in the hole.

Hey Now!
My boat is pretty in its own way... it apparently just can't compare to Gilley's backside.ncdavid wrote:Terrible pics. You've got a hot, red-headed chick in the group and we get TWO shots of Gilley Boaz' hiney? I love Gilley, and his boat is a whole lot prettier than Shannon's boat, but come on! No shots of Shannon's smile?
