Jackson is in the Canoe Business!! C1 out fitting

I sure would like to have a Jackson playboat as a C1, it would be the perfect complement to my open boat. Open boat for challenge, C1 for play. I might go for something like this. A nonbiased, objective review would be eagerly read.

I know some of you glue sniffin, outfitting tinkers wouldn't consider them, even if it was a good product.

Some people want to buy a boat and paddle. If the basic C guts are in the boat, you can still modify to meet your needs.

I have to agree with Sir Adam, lets see what they have to offer, before passing judgement. We all want more Cboat options and new products and at least Jackson has stepped up.

it's hard to believe no one is diving headlong into the C1-ish marketplace based on the reactions here?!!!?

only time will tell if it's a winner or loser... but let's at the very least give 'em credit for putting something out there.

here's the big ?

what else might it fit? can the base be purchased without the other "stuff"?

They should certainly sell just the "kit", and here's an idea-- a "conversion" where you can cut a kayak paddle in half and attach C-1 conversion handles. It follows this same line of thinking of taking an otherwise useless shape and converting it into something usefull.

well Larry I think you may be right... there's already a lot of people more than comfortable wearing a K1 skirt... so next it'll be paddle conversions... clearly the "transition" is already half the way over.

I've been thinking about this - the pedestals Perception and Dagger made are just thermoformed ABS or PE aren't they? How hard can that be do have done? I know folks form their own kydex sheaths and holsters...

"All you need is" a really big (and accurate) oven, a good vacuum pump and the molds. I've done much smaller parts and the whole process is pretty sensitive. At $120 (very loose guess), the break-even quantity would probably be 50-100 pieces, in my humble estimation, assuming I already had the oven.

Hmmm... I could probably come up with a fabricated aluminum pedestal design that you could Pop-rivet together (after trimming to fit your hull's profile) for under $100. It would require a Minicell addition on the top for comfort.

I was thinking about approaching a local manufacturer (don't have one in mind, but surely they're around) to see what it would take.

Personally, though, the "plate" conversion +/- the fence rail (or other similar backbone) bit are pretty easy and portable to a new boat...

On one of my early (!) conversions of a Dancer, I made a tubular framework that hung between the bow deck and the stern deck. The foam seat keyed in between the tubes, which dipped within about 3" of the hull. The thigh straps attached to the tubes in front of the foam. That design would be relatively easy to do, but would likely only fit one hull design.
